Lisbon Beat Vasco Viana

Vasco studied cinematography, sound and image at E.T.I.C. (Escola Técnica de Imagem e Comunicação, Lisboa) and at E.S.A.D. (Escola Superior de Artes e Design, Caldas da Rainha).
He graduated in Cinema – Image and Screenplay at E.S.T.C. (Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema) in 2005. He worked as assistant cinematographer in dozens of short and long fiction films as well as in marketing projects and adverts. He gained notoriety as Director of Photography thanks to his work in Arena, a short fiction film by João Salaviza that won the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Festival in 2009. Since then, he has worked relentlessly on fiction films, documentaries, television series, adverts and music videos. His skill was recognized once again for Rafa, another award-winning short by João Salaviza, which won the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Festival in 2012 and the Prize for Best Cinematography at the Manaki Film Festival – a festival dedicated exclusively to cinematography.
